Here's why you should have a Reverse Bucket List

We all know what a bucket list is- a long, winding list of everything we want to do, experience, feel or even say. It's basically a list of things to come, of changes to be made, and achievements to be accomplished. While it may be motivational and spirited, it can also work the other way- for some it can be a reminder that happiness is one item away on a list and is not within our hands already. That's why, along with the bucket list, it's a good idea to make a Reverse Bucket List!

A reverse bucket list focuses on what you’ve already achieved, rather than what’s to come. It is a collection of all of your achievements, experiences and happy moments- it is a reminder that happiness is, and has always been within our reach, and it's up to us to grab hold of it. Nothing is too big or too small for this list- whether it is a TV show that you watched, a rank at school, a promotion at work, a really great holiday or even a really good meal- the idea is to take stock of all the experiences that have made life good for you, and continue to do so. Doing this will help you see how far you've come, and there may be things that you once thought you could never do, but later conquered! It's a testament to your own progress and success.

Write down the things you’ve achieved, what you’ve overcome, and what it meant to you to do that, and see how you feel at the end!

Here are some prompts to get you started:

 1. Personal Achievements

- What did you think you couldn’t overcome, but you did?

- What did you learn when you stepped outside your comfort zone?

- Are there skills you’ve learnt over time?

2. Experiences

- Are there wonderful places you’ve visited? What was it like?

- A situation where you think you’ve learnt from mistakes?

- Did someone help you recently/Did you help someone else?

3. Life Lessons

- How have you changed from a year ago?

- Has your perspective on anything changed?

Remember, the possibilities are endless! Don't use these questions if they don't work for you- there's hundreds more that are available! Even if your list is small, remember that that's okay too. Everyone starts somewhere. Anything is possible. Use the list to reflect, and move forward, with motivation and hope.
