Mental Health during the COVID Pandemic
  09 Jul, 2021

To say pandemics can be stressful would be an understatement . You might have experienced increased stress during lockdown. Stress, anxiety, insomania, fear about the uncertainty associated with future, being overwhelmed, mood swings etc are some of the most obvious cause for the decline in the wellness of our health. And when we say health, it's not just about the physical health but mental as well, because the term healthy is coined when a person is physically, mentally and socially stable and free from diseases and infirmity. India still lacks education when it comes to MENTAL HEALTH. Mental health is the level of psychological well-being or an absence of mental illness. It is the state of someone who is "functioning at a satisfactory level of emotional and behavioral adjustment". And you may or may not realise this but this pandemic has a great role play in our current status of mental health. Research says that the most common emotion is fear. The fear of losing loved ones, or being exposed to the corona virus, or the thoughts about uncertainties with future can be frightening too. Fear that is controlling us and all our actions, moods and emotions. Fear comes with increased levels of anxiety and stress that gets bulk up more and more with time because of many reasons. Overthinking, Doubting yourself, Being too much introverted, Not dividing your time for productive stuffs, which in turn happen due to many reasons and one of them surely is the pandemic.

But just because you are suffering doesn't makes you a sufferer.. You are a survivor , A WARRIOR and not a WORRIER. It's tough. But things have to change. Things have to change for good because this pandemic is not the end of world rather it's a speed breaker to our fast and changing world.

Although ignorance is bliss, it's also like junk food; as much as you consume it, its power will grow and one day it'll consume you. So, acceptance towards positivity and negativity should be equivalent. Balance between the two is very essential. As it's aptly said that "Mental health is not a destination but a process". It's all about how you go through, how you react , how you receive and so much more. One shouldn't be too susceptible.

It's okay to feel bad and it's okay to not be okay. Allow yourself to feel exactly what you are feeling. Do not run away. Because the sun sets only to rise again.

And remember! nothing is permanent neither the good days nor the bad ones. Not even the CORONA VIRUS itself. So fall, cry, feel bad but remember to get up and fight back. Life's a roller coaster ride and it has its own highs and lows you just have to fasten the seat belt and ENJOY this ride.

- Do what makes you happy.

- Do what brings you peace.

- Do what makes you laugh .

And don't worry about you doing nothing because at times like this even doing nothing counts, atleast you are not doing something dangerous like going out or hanging out with friends.

And do not forget to keep talking. Because one of the thing to resolve any kind of mental issues is not to have 'loss of communication '. So talk, talk to your best friend, your siblings, your parents, your diary, your 3-am buddy, any stranger or US.
